Formal
Daytime Wedding
Bride
White, ivory, or delicate pastel-tinted floor-length
wedding dress with a cathedral or a chapel (sweep) train.
Long veil covering the train or extending to train length.
Or ballroom dress with full skirt and optional sweep
train. Bouquet or prayer book; shoes to match gown;
long gloves with short sleeves, otherwise gloves are
optional. Simple jewelry
Men
Traditional: cutaway coat (either oxford, gray or black)
with striped trousers, gray waistcoat, wing-collared
white shirt, and striped ascot.
Contemporary: black or gray contoured long or short
jacket, striped trousers, wing-collared white shirt;
gray vest (optional). Jacket in selection of colors,
matching pants, and coordinated shirt.
Bridemaids
Floor-length, ballerina, or tea-length dresses, cap,
hat, wreath, or decorative hair comb with or without
a short veil; gloves to complement length of sleeves;
shoes to match or blend with dresses; any style bouquet;
honor attendant's dress may match or contrast with other
attendants' dresses.
Mother
Simple floor- length or three-quarter- length dress,
small hats (optional), shoes, gloves, and corsage to
harmonize. The mothers' ensembles should complement
each other in regard to style; color and length.
Guests
At a formal wedding, women wear street-length dresses
or suits in the daytime, long, ballerina, or tea length
dresses in the evening. The attire for men is coordinated
to their escorts, unless otherwise stated on the invitation.
Formal Evening Wedding
Bride
Six o'clock is the hour that separates the formal evening
wedding from the formal day wedding. Wedding dress is
the same as for the daytime; fabrics and trimmings may
be more elaborate.
Men
Traditional: black tuxedo or a dinner jacket, black
striped trousers, coordinated vest or cummerbund, and
bow tie. Ultraformal, black tails, white tie, and accessories.
Contemporary: contoured long or short jacket, matching
trousers, wing-collared shirt, vest or cummerbund, bow
tie.
Bridemaids
Long or ballerina-length evening dresses; accessories
same as daytime. Fabrics can be more elaborate.
Mother
Floor-length or ankle-length dresses, small head covering;
dressy accessories - furs, jewelry.
Guests
